It’s understandable if you can’t immediately name all the companies that offer online video streaming services today. NBCUniversal’s Peacock TV, owned by Comcast, was one of the last services from the legacy media giants to launch. Peacock is a package of NBC programming that includes many of the network’s shows, original series, hit films, and even some live sports. Despite the straightforward pricing, we do not recommend the Premium plan as it still has advertisements and does not allow movie downloads for offline viewing. Popular NBC shows are still unavailable on Peacock TV. However, Peacock’sPeacock’s free tier is the Editors’ Choice winner since it supports complete HD broadcasts and has the most accessible collection of the free providers we’ve looked at.
Where can I find this Peacock Television thing?
Peacock TV, a new streaming service from NBCUniversal, is free, with a paid “Premium” tier and an optional “Premium Plus” premium. The portal features a variety of television shows, films, and original series in addition to live sports and news. Thanks to the on-demand library and genre- and franchise-specific streaming channels, you can watch what you want.

The free tier of PeacockPeacock offers more than 13,000 hours of content, while the premium subscription provides 20,000 hours. The most watched shows, all original productions, the best of what other networks offer and even some live sporting events are reserved for premium subscribers alone. Shows like 30 Rock, Cheers, Frasier, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, The King of Queens, Parks, and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, and more NBC shows, including Chicago Fire, Law & Order: SVU, Superstore, The Titan Games, and This Is Us can all be found on NBC Peacock TV’s on-demand library. Premium members of Peacock TV may see new episodes of their favorite shows the day they air, while free viewers will have to wait roughly eight days. Premium subscribers only have access to Superstore and The King of Queens. Naturally, The Office is most likely the most popular show on the service. The first two seasons are available without a subscription, but subsequent seasons will cost money.
Other shows on Peacock TV were not broadcast first on NBC. Project Blue Book, Real Husbands of Hollywood, Warehouse 13, Eureka, Chrisley Knows Best, Downton Abbey, House, Monk, Psych, and Battlestar Galactica are just a few. Sports on Peacock TV:
Peacock is a huge fan of watching sports on the big screen. For instance, viewers may take in every Sunday Night Football game this season and the Super Bowl. For the 2021-22 season, PeacockPeacock also has the rights to broadcast 175 live Premier League games and rebroadcasts of each game. Peacock has also expanded its coverage of the IndyCar series, hosts World Wrestling Entertainment (including pay-per-view events), and will air the NHL Stanley Cup Finals this season. Broadcasts of skating, skiing, and supercross events round out the service’s sports offerings. It is important to note that almost all of Peacock’sPeacock’s live sports content is only available to premium users.
Live local news and sports content (such as CBS’s broadcast of NFL games in local markets on Sunday afternoons) are also available on Paramount+’s streaming service. More and more on-demand services are relying on live sports broadcasts. For example, starting in 2019, Prime Video will be the exclusive broadcaster of Thursday Night Football games. Although these options are only sometimes the best sports streaming services, the expanded selection certainly helps.
How much does a peacock cost?
For free, you can watch on-demand content, Peacock’sPeacock’s channels, and select live sports with ads; for $4.99 a month, you can watch even more on-demand titles with ads; for $9.99 a month, you can watch the entire library without ads and all sporting events. One of Peacock’sPeacock’s support pages clarifies that even with Premium Plus, specific material will include ads.
You can try the premium plan risk-free for a week. However, as of recently, both Disney+ and Netflix have discontinued offering free trial periods, so yours will likely finish shortly. The original, free version would still be available, of course. Peacock is the most well-known free video streaming site we’ve looked at, with more easily recognizable titles than, for example, Tubi or Crackle. It also doesn’t have the resolution caps that those other two services do when streaming.
Peacock’s $4.99/month tier is the same price as Paramount+’s ad-supported plan, but Hulu’s matching $5.99/month tier is slightly more pricey. Peacock’s Premium Plus was priced similarly to comparable high-end services. Disney+ and Prime Video have lower monthly prices than Netflix ($12) and Hulu ($15). Netflix’s Standard Plan is $13.99 per month (the lowest plan we recommend), while HBO Max is $14.99 per month (although it now provides an ad-supported and feature-limited plan for $9.99 per month). Mubi and The Criterion Channel charge $10.99 monthly for their movie-only streaming services.
Peacock’s Web-Based User Interface:
To evaluate PeacockPeacock, I ran it through the Firefox browser on a Windows 10 desktop. Peacock’s web interface is minimalist in design, using a color scheme of white, grey, black, and yellow. Given how vibrant the NBC Peacock emblem is, I had hoped to see similar splashes of color throughout. However, the design is straightforward, and I experienced no sluggishness in my tests. I noticed that the interface’s top navigation bar is only sometimes present, making it necessary to use the back arrow more than once to return to a significant section.
Peacock’s interface is split into two sections, Channels and Browse, with a navigation bar at the top. In addition, a search field and a profile pictogram can be seen at the top right. The search bar only allows you to browse for items by their titles; you can’t filter your results by other criteria, such as the actors, directors, or producers involved. On the Account settings page, you may adjust your profile and payment information, as well as your parental controls, subtitle settings, and email notification choices. Peacock Mobile Applications:
Peacock was installed without problems on my Google Pixel 3 running Android 10, and I could access my test account immediately. The app was unavailable through Google Play Search on the day of its release. The app’s primarily vertical layout is reminiscent of Quibi’s. There was almost no delay while beginning a streaming session or navigating between app displays.
You can navigate using the Channels, Trending, and Browse tabs in the footer menu. The search bar can be found on the Trending page only in the bottom left corner, while profile settings may be accessed via an icon in the top right. In the profile section, you can restrict playback to only over a Wi-Fi connection and view, but not edit, your plan information. There is no way to customize the subtitle layout. Users that need a greater font size need more time.
Replay of an Experience:
The online playback interface in PeacockPeacock has all the standard features. In addition to the standard play/pause/volume controls, there are 10-second fast forward and rewind buttons, a subtitles toggle, a More Episodes selector (for TV shows), and an info button to view a brief overview of the content. The viewing screen of the mobile app features the same controls and the previously described overflow menu that allows simple access to the More Episodes, Continue Watching, and Watchlist sections.

According to NBC, each account can only support a maximum of three simultaneous streams. BritBox is the best option now because it allows for five streams simultaneously. Disney+ and HBO Max are just two of several services that allow for the simultaneous use of three streams. Neither HBO Max nor Peacock supports 4K HDR streaming at this time. Apple TV+, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and NetFlix offer this option.
Limits for younger children and easy access:
Unfortunately, the movie player does not allow customization of the Peacock subtitles. The desktop section of the settings is where you’ll adjust the captions. In that menu, you’ll find options for changing the text’s size, color, shadow, backdrop, and window. Ordinary people make these selections. According to the Audio Description Project(Opens in a new window), only 16 titles had audio descriptions available. More services, including Netflix, Apple TV+, and Prime Video, now offer this accessibility feature, which provides spoken descriptions of on-screen events like scene transitions and character actions that may be unclear from dialogue alone.
Virtual Private Network and Peacock:
A virtual private network (VPN) is indispensable when protecting your personal information online. Virtual private networks are also helpful for spoofing your location online. This is especially problematic for video streaming services because some content may be region-specific. Thus, several online video service providers have begun prohibiting VPN connections outright.
To watch some on-demand content from PeacockPeacock, I connected to a US-based Mullvad VPN server. Peacock typically showed a notice that accessing the service over a virtual private network (VPN) was not permitted. But in other attempts, I could successfully watch while using a VPN.
Affordable Cost:
NBC’s streaming service provides live news and sports and a partial (but extensive and expanding) collection of fan favorites for a reasonable price. There’s even a free, ad-supported tier for those on a tight budget. However, there is a limited selection of originals at the moment, the movie library is updated often, and offline viewing of films is restricted to Premium Plus subscribers. However, it remains Editors’ Choice thanks to its extensive streaming library and support for HD streaming in the free edition.
Netflix has the best original film library compared to other on-demand video streaming providers. Hulu with Live TV and YouTube TV are our top picks for watching live TV online. Hulu + Live TV offers an attractive combination of premium channels and a considerable streaming library, while YouTube TV impresses with a first-rate user interface and improved DVR features.
